This species has been known to tolerate flooded conditions for extended periods of time. River birch is perhaps the most culturally adaptable and heat tolerant of the birches.
RIVER BIRCH FULL
The best foliage color occurs in full sun. Bark is distinctive: reddish-brown or grayish, peeling into conspicuous papery strips. River birch prefers wet sites and does best in moist, acidic, sandy, or rocky, well-drained loam in full sun to part shade. Leaves are alternate, simple, somewhat triangular to egg-shaped, 13 inches long, 12 inches wide margins densely toothed upper surface shiny dark green, lower surface whitish, very hairy. The system is designed to have low energy consumption requirements and use wind/solar to minimize operating energy costs. River birch is a medium-sized tree with an irregular, broad, spreading crown. Lower maintenance/operating costs – Contains fewer and longer lasting parts than alternative competitive systems. Also, systems are located closer to the consumption, avoiding trucking and/or piping costs, and reducing theft. Works well for holding stream banks and keeping erosion in check. Can grow as either a single- or multi-stemmed tree. It will tolerate moderate flooding as well as some drought.
RIVER BIRCH INSTALL
No need to build special roads, bridges and equipment to deliver and install at selected locations. The River Birch Clump Tree grows well in acidic, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained, wet and clay soils. The river birch (Betula nigra) is a fast-growing deciduous shade tree, usually multi-stemmed, that is very popular in landscape use.It has the beautiful exfoliating bark that is the hallmark of many birches, but it is one of the most adaptable birch species, with better tolerance for poorly drained soils and warm conditions than most species of birch.
Lower deployment costs – Installed by a small team in weeks, not months. Systems are fraction of the cost of a typical water treatment plant and will literally save governments hundreds of millions of dollars Opportunity to operate units using wind or solar energy with battery back-up Speed to Market – We can have a system on the ground and producing clean water within 3-6 months It transplants easily and grows quickly in a wide. As a landscape plant, it is grown as a single-stem tree or in a clump as a multi-stemmed tree with three or more trunks. It is popular for its ornamental peeling bark. Ideal for new developments, resorts, communities with boil water advisories, aquaculture, wastewater treatment, islands, remote locations River birch ( Betula nigra) is a fast-growing, shade tree native to the Mississippi River flood plain in southeastern Minnesota.
